Degenerative arthritis is very common at the base of the thumb, particularly in middle aged women. This is the most common arthritic problem I see. Often, the symptoms respond to medication, a small splint, or an injection. Fortunately, there is an excellent surgical cure for this problem, which relieves pain while maintaining strength and motion.

Painful Arthritis in the base of the thumb is one of the most common degenerative joint problems encountered in our practice. This disease typically afflicts middle aged women and can be very disabling. Fortunately, the treatment is both effective and long lasting and can restore patient hand function to near normal.
